Legal Assistance/ Awareness/Education

  1. Legal Assistance:- the society shall provide legal assistance to those who need it without any discrimination whatsoever on the grounds of caste, creed, race, religion, sex, or place of birth; while legal awareness is the natural starting point for legal empowerment, it has often to be followed by legal assistance in actually accessing rights. This is especially so for marginalized sections whose protracted vulnerability makes access to justice particularly difficult. For the purposes of assistance the society shall provide free legal advice and counselling which may also be extended to representation in court through litigation in case of such a requirement; all such legal assistance shall be provided through the society’s network of lawyers and community justice workers in various parts of the country. Advocates may be hired in case of a requirement; for such purposes of justice as envisaged, the society shall endeavour to collaborate with the Legal Services Authority of various states for the provision of legal assistance; and the society may establish, maintain, manage and administer “Legal Aid Cells” in the areas of operation for the provision of free and easy legal advice and aid to the community.
  2. Legal Awareness:- the society shall spread awareness about the existent laws; critical knowledge of legal provisions and processes, coupled with the skills to use this knowledge to realize rights and entitlements will empower people to demand justice, accountability and effective remedies at all levels. For such requirements, the society shall produce a wide range of legal literacy materials, conduct legal awareness workshops/camps for activists, students and the community, and also train them on legal provisions and procedure; and for such purposes of awareness the society shall also develop manuals, training modules, films and literature to make the process of understanding the law easy and enjoyable.
  3. Legal Education:- The society may–establish, maintain, manage and administer educational institutions including research centres in backward, tribal, and urban areas;undertake, assist and aid literacy programs and awareness generation campaigns;establish, maintain and undertake to aid and assist in the establishment and maintenance of public libraries and book banks; andorganize workshops, conferences, and various academic competitions such as Essay Competitions, Debates, Moot Court Competitions, Model United Nations Conference, etc.
